Jewelry has a special place in my heart, as it is an industry I have grown up around. With my mother as a jewelry designer and growing up in Hong Kong a city central to the industry, it has been a great privilege to see beautiful art being created everyday. It all started when I was young and I would visit my mom in her office, and to my amusement I would go digging around the office carpet picking up any loose gemstones. My curiosity for wanting to know more about where gems come from, then led me to Carlsbad for a 6-month course in Gemology. My time at GIA headquarters has given me profound respect for this industry, as I learnt not only about the beautiful wonders mother nature can create, but also about how gemstones and jewelry have been a bridge for trade between developed and developing economies, allowing us to share resources and build up economies together. I want to encourage women to thoughtfully spend their hard-earned money towards quality, fine jewelry- something that not only holds investment value but also will help them feel luxurious and empowered.
