Thomas Cooper's jewelry career started in high school as a part time retail jewelry salesman. That experience inspired Thomas to move to New York City to study jewelry design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Thomas was the recipient of the prestigious Van Cleef & Arpels Graduating Design Award. "My first job after graduation was working as a designer for a well-known manufacture of high-end fine jewelry. I realized immediately that working as a designer without the experience of working at the bench would make me less competitive later in my career. I searched for and found a platinum shop willing to take me on as an apprentice. They taught me the craft of fine jewelry from the ground up.” – Thomas Cooper Mastering his craft working as a bench jeweler for the top jewelry workshops in New York City, Thomas produced handmade diamond and precious gemstone jewelry set in platinum and 18 karat gold. In 1986 Thomas struck out on his own operating out of the corner of his bedroom in New York City. Six months later Thomas Cooper Jewelry opened in New York City's diamond district providing jewelry design and custom order jewelry manufacturing services to high end jewelry stores and private clients across the United States.
